That will explain the variable deadline system.

I have 2 Seventeen or Bust projects with a 32 day time estimated and yesterday they had 4 days left to and had run for 27 days I shut down my computer last night and find the 4 days left has increased to 17 days and another I got yesterday the 32 days to 116 days I am not pleased and am considering aborting them

Definitely do not abort them.

If you look at the task on the website, you will see that the deadline may be longer than what your computer is telling you. PrimeGrid uses a special system that extends deadlines, as needed, as long as your computer is actively working on the task. (There’s a limit to how much a deadline can be extended, but it’s very long. )

Because of this system, PrimeGrid is very lenient about deadlines, and we DO grant credit for successful tasks even if they’re late. Sometimes even when the tasks fail. Basically, we believe that if you completed the work correctly, you deserve credit for it and we go above and beyond to grant that credit if it’s at all possible.

GEN21 MT CPU, I am wondering if my 10980XE do better with two units and 9 cores, or one unit and 18 cores?

I am trying, and failing, to recall if MT still works on GFN-21.

On the PG server I found an “In Process” work unit 751835819 (genefer17low_53047348) that is not found on my computer
My computer #1082464 is Idle and will not fetch new work
In the log I found:
• Not using NVIDIA GPU: project preferences
• Not requesting tasks: don't need (CPU: ; NVIDIA GPU: )
As far as I’m aware I did not change anything
What did I do wrong?

You did nothing wrong. Sometimes tasks get lost like that. Just ignore it; it will time out and get resent.

...maybe even 1.5e7, but PRP tests for those numbers will take weeks on current hardware.

With multithreading?

I would be ecstatic if factorial and primorial searches were moved to BOINC and then a challenge run on them.

I agree.

We all agree on this, going back several years. Jim and I have wanted to do this for a long time, but there's a lot of difficulties involved...

It's PFGW only; LLR (and thus LLR2 as well) can not be used.

That means PFGW has to be made to work with BOINC. There's a whole bunch of technical problems right there.

But that's just the obvious stuff. The real problems occur once you succeed in getting this running out of BOINC ... because we'll completely run out of work within a week. The existing sieve files just don't go that far. On PRPNet, they'll last a long time. On BOINC? Even without TSC they won't last long, and when you factor in the almost unlimited processing power of TSC I suspect we'd run dry before all the droplets even got spooled up.

So, we'll have to do more sieving. Manual sieving? Another BOINC project? We'll need to do something. But even then, we're going to start running into limits in the software. The software that did the current sieves can't go much higher.

In short, it's *probably* doable but there's a whole lot of planning and probably a bunch of coding that would need to happen before this could occur.

The WW subproject is back online.
18) Message boards : Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun Prime Search : WW is broken (Message 152130)

We are back online. Everything looks like it's working correctly, but we won't be certain until the next special instance is found.
19) Message boards : News : WW (Wieferich Wall-Sun-Sun) temporarily offline (Message 152122)
Posted 25 days ago by Profile Michael GoetzProject donor
We've had to temporarily disable the WW project due to a problem identified in the work generator. The affected tasks have been cancelled and generation of new workunits has been suspended.

Tasks that are not affected will complete normally, and you can continue running them to completion.

This only affects the WW subproject. Feel free to switch to our other subprojects while WW is taking a "mental health day".

For more information and discussion, please see this thread: https://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=9786

We understand the nature of the problem. I don't expect it will take a very long time to fix.

The affected workunits have been cancelled -- the problem is in the work generator, and the affected tasks will all fail.
