I guess no one uses a Tesla. I am trying a Tesla V100 and it takes for PPSSieve 110 seconds, about the same as a 2080 ti. But not near as fast as the 3080 and 3090..

That looks about right. A V100 has about 14k GFLOPS, which is just a tad more than a 2080 Ti. The 3070, 3080, and 3090 all have more GFLOPS than that (the 3080 and 3090 have a lot more), and so will run faster than a V100 on something like PPS sieve. This may not be the case for other applications. For example, the higher GFN (21, 22, DYFL) will take advantage of the substantial double-precision capability of the V100, which may render it faster than the 3xxx series cards.

Thank you Scott for the reply. I find that V100 is about as fast as 2080 ti, but much slower than 3080 or 3090.
Any ideas when the 40 series may come out, since the 3080 and 3090 are priced so ridiculously high?

Late next year is the expected time based on their history of releases. As to cost, that really depends on what AMD and Intel do in the meantime, where the world is in pandemic recovery (and tariffs for Americans), as well as the cryptocurrency market, which is the cause of the current card cost inflation.

I've just written to my MP asking him to urge the Canadian Government to set energy efficiency standards for cryptocurrency, arguing that it will help achieve carbon footprint targets, as well as reduce the pressure on electricity prices. As the market price for crypto goes up, miners will pay anything for electricity and drive up the cost for the rest of us.

As a byproduct of energy efficiency standards for crypto, quantities of fast GPUs would be dumped on the secondary market with no competition from industrial-scale miners.

EDIT: An example of the shift of mining capacity from China to North America.
