about 1800 seconds to about 6300 seconds. No change in processor, just the time required to process one went up dramatically last night. Any ideas why?

Seeing as your runtimes have not dropped after running many tasks, I must ask you: have you tried turning it off and on again?

Besides restarting your computer, is there anything else you've started running on your computer? For example, did you start running SGS? It looks to me you started running SGS around the same time your PPS Sieve tasks got longer. It looks to me you're pushing the laptop too hard and it can't cool itself properly, and as a consequence, it had to run the GPU at a lower speed to keep it from thermal throttling.

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. Heat does appear to be the main issue here. I've propped up the back of the laptop to improve air flow, so we'll see what that does. I've got the run time back down to "normal", so we'll see what happens. It is interesting to note as well that on occasion the battery charge cannot keep up. Not always, but now and then. I get the feeling that HP really didn't design this laptop to be a full time cruncher. Oh well.

On my laptop I crunch with either the CPU or GPU but not both at the same time. With a shared heatsink, either one running max (especially with a llr task on CPU) will limit the other. This is even with a cooling pad underneath.

Same here, I just prop the laptop up for simplicity and run either CPU or GPU. When I run to run both, ex. 321 SV+PPS SV, I use 1 thread on 321 SV and 1 GPU on PPS SV.

Fun and games. In December the laptop quit. So I contacted HP and sent it in. Came back dead. Sent it again. Came back dead. Sent it in a third time with a strongly worded message. . I got an email in early January saying it would be back in a few days. That few days stretched into a few weeks. I finally got it back and it has been running fine. Except - the sieve job that used to take about 1/2 hour is now taking a touch over 2 hours. Temperature does not appear to be an issue this time. And the charger has no trouble keeping up. This is really frustrating. I'm on the verge of saying to heck with it. Any ideas short of saying to heck with it?

Check the power configuration settings. It may be set to lower the clock speed instead of speeding up the fan when it needs to cool down the CPU, which it definitely will need to do when crunching.

Have you thought about getting a fan thing for underneath the laptop like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Cooling-VOXON-Notebook-Suitable-Laptops/dp/B07QTZQSRT/ref=asc_df_B07QTZQSRT/?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=&hvpos=&hvnetw=o&hvrand=&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583520386372834&psc=1

That is JUST an example as there are about a million different kinds and prices for them, they run off a usb port but alot have an extra usb port or two on them to make up for the use of one.

Ever think HP down clocked the unit? It seems like they should replace it with the Lemon laws in effect, but they can replace with a refurbished machine, which still could be under clocked. They are trying to keep your temperatures down, and down clocking would be a way. They probably would not tell you as most people would not notice.
