This question actually regards another project, but this is the only board I am active on, and the participants seem knowledgeable.

How reliable is the estimated computation size displayed by BOINC Manager under "Properties"?
I ask this because I have been running Collatz Conjecture on my GPU while Seventeen or Bust is running on my CPU, and dividing the computation size by the runtime gives a result of 731,816 GIOP/s which seems absolutely beyond the realm of possibility. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I asked this very question on the Collatz forum once (well, except that I didn't yet know then that it does integer math only), but never received a good answer. My best understanding currently about these size estimations is that they're hard/impossible to get consistently right and that they should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think it was Mike (who else! :) ) who once told me that at least the estimates for PrimeGrid tasks are the product of them actively trying to come up with something accurate, but that it's not a straightforward thing to do.

Yeah their forum is kinda lousy and there isn't much participation. Questions to the project administrator go unanswered, so I figured I had a better chance of getting a sensible reply here. Thanks.

Methinks they should do a better job estimating. 7,318 GIOP/s I might believe; 731,816 - not on my hardware!
