Has anyone ever thought of devoloping a screensaver for this project? It would be great, maybe something minimal, it could display the number being tested and a short description of the conjecture/types of numbers of the subproject.

Most people wouldn't want to give up either CPU or GPU cycles for a screensaver when they could be put to good use crunching tasks instead.

Furthermore, a lot of people pay fairly hefty electric bills each month to keep the computers running, and having the screens in standby or better yet turned off saves some electricity.

But if you want a screensaver, there is a generic BOINC screensaver which will show task progress. Nobody has shown any interest in developing a screen saver specifically for PrimeGrid.

The number being tested is hidden for the user. It is not that it is encrypted or anything, you can see the k and/or n value in a plain text file in some working folder if you want. However, I believe one reason for not showing the number in the client is that we do not want finders of a prime to report it on their own, possibly without the correct credit to PrimeGrid and software developers. /JeppeSN

It's mostly because we don't want the double checker reporting (accidently or otherwise) it when it's supposed to be the prime finder who reports it.

I had noticed the files containing the n/k values, and I may use them to create a screensaver on my own. Thank you anyways!

Ok, thank you for your answers!
