I'm unsure if anyone wants to know, and/or, can do anything, but I have had several PPS Sieve work units under the "Validation Inconclusive" section... all having been completed by the same user/client. Upon going through their "invalid" list, I found 563 invalid going back to 01/21 - There were more - I just quit counting there.

I figured someone may want to alert this individual, as they are just wasting their electricity and money. Also - it's rather annoying for the user who gets marked inconclusive, and has to wait for another client to validate the result. Especially when there are BOINC competitions, or the like.

Again - not sure if this should even be brought up in here. If not, please excuse me for doing so. Was only looking to save the person money/time, and help the project, as I'm sure this contributes to bandwidth issues (over usage for no good reason). Not to mention all of the other people awaiting validation on units that apparently shouldn't have been assigned to this particular client in the first place.

It should probably say something that I recognize that host ID number. :)

That machine also returns consistently bad results on GFN. Just ignore it.

Thanks for responding. I wasn't sure whether to say anything or not! Didn't wanna cause a stink, but it seemed a bit odd that the project itself wasn't sorting the client out as a "bad apple".

I'll ignore it!! Thanks again! :)

BOINC is made for this type of problem system. That is why the Admin says to ignore it.

I would take a guess to say that more than 80% of BOINC users are set and forget. Most do not check forums or even look at the health of their systems. They just start it and let it run. Some of those systems are set up by "friends" who may not have constant access to the computer (and/or lost the friendship and has no access). Rogue systems will always be out there. Nothing should really be done about them. Sure they spew garbage, but usually the work is returned quickly and the unit gets out to another user quickly.

Be proud you are one of the few who keeps an eye on their system, regularly checks the projects themselves, and are an active part of a great community of people who crunch for these projects.

And a harder part of it is that that host has returned a lot of validated, double-checked work units, at least for PPS Sieve, in addition to all of the garbage. So it's not like the host ID should be summarily "black listed" (not sure if such a thing is possible, in boinc).

I don't know if it still does it but Boinc used to be able to slow down the units assigned to a particular user if all they did was return garbage, then returning to the normal amount if the pc was 'fixed'. Maybe this could be refined to a by project thing for situations like this one, the pc could still get PPS Sieve units but not the ones they keep trashing.
