Rytis might have a better answer for you, but I can tell you my thoughts about this (it's one of the first thoughts that popped into my mind when we moved to Rackspace.) Remember that my thoughts are just that, my thoughts, and I don't make these kinds of decisions. This is all unofficial.

(We're still hosting PRPNet at the old hosting service, at least for now, so there's some expense, but it's not much.)

Although this is a hobby for all of us, I looked at it from a business perspective. For as long as I can remember, PrimeGrid and similar projects have been in "survival mode", with just enough money to meet the monthly expenses. That's no way to run a business. One bad day and you're gone forever. (Anyone remember that nice third party stats website that listed all sorts of milestones? He blew a motherboard, couldn't raise the money to replace it, and it vanished.)

So the first thing on my priority list would be to save up some money for the proverbial rainy day. Who knows what's going to happen in the future? We should have enough money in reserve to not have to go into panic mode if there are unexpected requirements.

What Mike state is pretty much all true; with the help from Rackspace, the only expense now is prpnet server and paying for domain names (which is a tiny amount compared to our general spending). What we do now however is build some sort of a "recovery" fund in case something goes awfully wrong.

There was also discussion about spending the money for development hardware and/or promoting PG in scientific conferences, but no specific need for either has arisen yet.

That's a good enough reason for me to suggest this. http://www.cardpartner.com/pro I would love to have a card with a primegrid logo on it. The big thing that would be an issue is that the person representing primegrid to this company would have to be in the United States. It also sucks because there are so many people who crunch here outside of the states wouldn't be able to get it even if they wanted it. It's something to consider and I would certainly sign up for it.

I think the big thing would be that PrimeGrid probably isn't a legal entity anywhere, let alone in the United States. Before doing anything like this, we'd probably have to either create a U.S. corporation, LLC, or similar. Also, I wasn't able to find any concrete information about the co-branding program. If there's a "terms and conditions" document, I wasn't able to find it. Not being able to to find the details of a business partnership raises all sorts of red flags in my mind.

As always you're very quick with looking into stuff. I'll see if I can get any more information if at all and if there is a requirement for some sort of legal organization. I kinda just jumped to the "club" one because I figured that was the closest to the truth since primegrid certainly isn't a non profit of any kind.
