Is it possible to add a prime count on the start page of Primegrid site?
It would be fun to see the count go up as a prime have been verified.
Something like a challenge countdown on top of a page would be nice.

Thanks.

oh by the gods, no, please do not implement such a thing.

I rather see the current tools "Recent Significant Primes" updated!
Also you can see the newest primes on the bottom of the homepage.

Forgive my language, but a prime-counter on top of the homepage is 1 of the worst things to want. (it is like those visitor counters, which nobody is interested in, because the number itself is useless and insignificant).

While I'm not sure I share your dislike of prime counts (I think lots of people might be curious as to how many GFN primes have been found (54) or how many k's we've knocked off the Reisel problem (9)), I do agree that the home page needs updating. I'll take care of that. And for those who are interested, here's the list, by project:

+---------+--------+ | project | primes | +---------+--------+ | 121 | 1 | | 27 | 1 | | 321 | 11 | | CUL | 6 | | ESP | 27 | | FPS | 3 | | GCW | 5 | | GFN | 54 | | MEG | 1 | | PPS | 58142 | | PRS | 2 | | SGS | 4456 | | SR5 | 49 | | TPS | 6399 | | TRP | 9 | | WOO | 9 | +---------+--------+

This includes both BOINC and PRPNet, and PPS includes PPSE. GFN includes all 6 n ranges that have been searched here.

Use the "pre" BB-code to get a non-proportionally spaced font. Quote my message to see an example of how it's done.

There's no project called twin; the twin primes project was TPS. The actual twin primes are not distinguished from the thousands of normal primes found by the project before it was superseded by SGS.

True, there is no Twin project and there is no Fermat Divisor, but they are special primes found in other projects, have been announced as such and I think could be counted, since they actually do kind of fall in their own category.

-- numbers--

You add context to the numbers! Which make them significant :)

I interpreted Mr.Cool's idea as only a single prime-counter like the count-down clock to challenges.. which was in my opinion not a good idea. A single counter has no context (and holds little to no information).

If you would place them the way you described them in your post.. I would certainly like the idea!!(amount of primes per subproject, ranges searched, etc).
+1 !!

Thank you for your answers and ideas. I Like the idea of a prime count for sub-projects, though I still advocate the idea of a single count of a total numbers of primes found.

I think simplicity and a big number (50000+) makes a big impression. It's nice to see it grow almost every hour.

The elaborate table of primes found in Primegrid can be on a separate page or down below on the main page.

Also I think we should implement a count of computer power from all users (CPU & GPU separately). Displayed in teraflops/petaflops as in Mersenne Search website for example.

I'm sure that PrimeGrid can rate in the top-500 list of supercomputers. We should be delivering at least 60 teraflops CPU only.
