I have gotten three WUs that I have prematurely terminated. The error message says "Can't run app". Is this an indication of heating issues?

I usually turn off the computer around 10 pm and start it around 8 am, if that is the rebooting you are referring to.

When you shut down the computer:

Check Boinc Manager - make sure all running Tasks have recently checkpointed.
Suspend all tasks (Snooze Boinc works).
Wait at least 60 seconds (especially Vista).
Note if hard drive is still being written to (lights flashing, sounds, etc.), and if so, wait some more.
Shutdown (or Hibernate -- but may have problems with some of latest Boinc Managers).

Without snooze you can write a CMD/batch file which contains "X:\path\to\Boinc\boinccmd --quit".
This will shutdown only your boinc-client (not the manager). A host shutdown via the same CMD is also possible: "shutdown -h -t 60" gives you 60sec waiting time before shutdown the host and entering the off state.
