Being new to Linux here... I am having difficulty running the gfnsvocl Linux app.

I downloaded it, saved it, moved it to my home/primegrid directory renamed it gfnsvocl

when I change to that directory and type gfnsvocl with the proper parameters I get a message saying command not found. BUT, it's right there when I type dir.. sooo, what's the catch? do I need to compile it or change the extension or do something completely different?

Tried running it via the file explorer and it told me there is no application installed for "executable" files

hmmm

I tried changing the permissions to allow program to execute... still no go ...

My guess is I need to put into a special directory or something with the right permissions.... currently in ~/primegrid off my home directory

tried bash and sudo bash then the gfnsvocl - still says can't execute binary file

yep I understand that :) slightly different animals. The built in "safety" procedures in Linux are good. Like this for example. Not including the current directory by default when you type a command or try to run a program. You need to actually specify the current directory not just the program name.

Good news however...

I can report the sieving performance on a 1050 Ti.... with B maxed out at B13 it's achieving 61p/day. About what I expected. Limited graphics slowdowns too on the Linux machine. Some but it's not totally crippling while typing text. Scrolling it still slightly jumpy. It currently only has an Intel D 820 CPU but that's being upgraded soon. Using the W1 parameter reduced the CPU usage from over 50% to just 11% with a few jumps to 17-18% every so often. Livable to do other CPU projects with while sieving.
