Some of my PPSE workunits validate with just me and no wingman. But others do require a wingman, even if they don't turn out to be prime. I can understand the need for double-checking if one computer says it's prime, but otherwise why are only some double-checked?

Only "trusted" computers with a record of returning correct results are allowed to run without a wingman. Even if your computer is trusted, sometimes the other computer is not, and you'll be assigned to be his wingman.
