Ah yes 5 November. The time decent folk light a bonfire. Aggie The Pew reckon they'll barbecue some beef on theirs this year.
I reckon we can find more PRPNet PPSELow Port 12000 primes and/or GFN divisors and/or process more w/u than any one else that day.
Come on and have a go if you think you are hard enough.
The rules are simple. See if you can beat us on port: prpnet.mine.nu:12000 as reported here http://u-g-f.de/PRPNet/ for stats reported there for 5 November. You can find out how to sign up here http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1215.
There are bonus points if we can kill the server or drain the port.
This has little to do with Prime Grid. PG are vaguely aware we are thinking of doing this and didn't scream too loudly so no bleats to them please if there are technical hitches. In due course PG will award manual credit for completed w/us. There should be lots of primes and a fair amount of BOINC credit. Maybe just maybe there'll also a Fermat Divisor. The only other prize is more precious than rubies; bragging rights over the Horde.
The lads here are gagging for it. Aren't you lads?
Lads? Lads?
Whadyya mean? Rats and sinking ships?

The gekkos have worked out a plan --- I'll chuck the old clunker out at them--

Then when they are standing around sniffing it -- trying to work out what the hell it is we will slip past them with the i7's (2nd one will be online by then)

lolololol... Sate alternative: rats on a stick on the bonfire? ;)
But one organization matter: 5 November is way to ambiguous! Please specify dates + times (in UTC). So does this challenge go from 5 November 0:00 (UTC) till 23:59 (UTC) ?
This cow is not very keep on other then boinc-contest.. but perhaps we could make an exception ^^ :)

We'll have to go with the only stats we can easily get which are here: http://u-g-f.de/PRPNet/ which runs at Hamburg time which will be UTC+1 in November. But I don't think they necessaarily update on the stroke of the hour which will add to the sporting nature of the event.

I would love 2 play with the rats again, but since my focus is somewhere else now, and im not about to switch my machine park again ;) I will have to let this one go. (it does itch since i have got the psprunner working) But that is to fend of [H] at PsP-PrP. I will however take part in the "normal"chellenge next time
Good Luck 2 all, Cu next time |

As this is an informal challenge and because we don't control nor do we want to change the normal operations at prpnet, the rule of wu's received before the 5th does not apply. From what I read and know about prpnet and the stats, it's basically all the wu's reported on the 5th regardless of when they were started. And the best part, there's no clean up period to wait on.
I found a couple of things really interesting. The best was finding out there were so many different cuts of beef (thanks Caravaggio for diagram) and the second was that the herd might be a tad skittish right now :)

Actually, there is one limitation to this...WU deadline. :) Currently it is set to 24 hours. Therefore, anything downloaded before the 4th will have expired by the 5th and thus, the server will have cancelled the WU and sent it out again.

actually we her in Holland do have something like that. You can get a sticker from the council stating no i don't want folders, or mail with no name on it. If you do recieve such mail you can complain and the sender will be( eventualy) warned or fined |

that sounds just like email spamming. you get crap, tell them you don't want crap and they tell the sender to stop but of course then you get more from someone else :)
So have you EVER heard of anyone actually getting fined or warned? |
|
|

nope, what i do understand is that it works, i've had one in the past and it reduced the amount of folders from local supermarkets and the likes to 0 does clean up the old paperbin ;). Its a kind of gentlemans agreement and works better than a spam filter :) |

I wrote "return to sender" one time on a package some company sent to me at a cost of 5 dollars postage to them, they never sent me anything again! I understand the Post Office does not allow that anymore though, I am in the US. When I had a woodstove though I used to save it all and just use it to keep warm! Now my local County takes all junk mail as recycling so in the bin it goes, most of it never comes thru the front door! |

A reminder that Aggie The Pew's Barbecue starts in just over 24 hours at 2300UTC 4 November. All are welcome. We are meeting over on PRPNet PPSELow Port 12000 (prpnet.mine.nu:12000) from 2300UTC 4 November 2011 for 24 hours. Details of how to sign up are here: http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1215 . In addition to cow parts, prime numbers and possibly Fermat Divisors BOINC credit will be available after the event
To save the server taking too much of a beating please set <workunits> at at least 10. This also will increase your score since your computer won't be hunting for workunits for so long.
Also be sure to include teamid=Aggie_The_Pew in your master_prpclient file.
It is entirely possible that we'll kill the server. Please don't growl at Lennart because we are gate crashing.

The barbecue is about to start so I'm about to go to bed.
Thanks for taking part if you are. Even more thanks if you are one of the horde ("we few, we happy few") but especial thanks to the unpaid, largely unrecognised people who make the barbecue possible. Grab yourselves a slab (it is going to be a long night) and bit of dead bovine.

I don't know why but the cows seem to be hit very hard by the problems.
I alone should have done over 5.000 tests with my 2 computers. However, the whole team only has 5.300 units at this time.
Also I think there are currently only 3 cows participating. All the others are kicking [H]ard|OCP's ass on PSP-PRP at this same moment.
Is there a way to see user stats for this Barbecue? I only found team stats.

There are no user stats special for the barbecue, only team stats.
The common user stats should give you an impression, but they are not updated so often

That'd be the [H]ard|OCP we are about to overtake?

I don't know why but the cows seem to be hit very hard by the problems.
I alone should have done over 5.000 tests with my 2 computers. However, the whole team only has 5.300 units at this time.
Also I think there are currently only 3 cows participating. All the others are kicking [H]ard|OCP's ass on PSP-PRP at this same moment.

The cows are no better or worse off than the rest of us --- at least you are on the same continent as the server --- I am on the other side of the bloody planet with god knows how many nodes to get through ----
Another challenge anytime you want ----

PSP-PRP that is. Which is a Vault-project, so I don't know where the rats are about to overtake [H], but nog on PSP-PRP.
@DoES: not implying we were hit more than others. But given the cows normal potential we are way behind. Just an observation.
By the way, these problems are in favor of slower machines. So better to have a few slower machines than one very fast.

We rats don't tend to roam far beyond PrimeGrid and PRPNet (although we can be talked into noprimeleftbehind). We are about to overtake [H] on PrimeGrid.

Them's fighting words --- Ha Ha!!! --- the 990x is running @ 4Ghz -- minor OC due to heat --- the 920 is OC'ed but undervolted for the same reason -- all the rest are stock

Bug report - prpclient 4.3.5 Linux 64 Bit (?)
prpclient can't report an xGF, because of this:
"Expected prefix [Mai GFN] on line [Main GFN: xGF("
I had to manually edit the .save file and remove the 'n' from Main. I hope it works now...

It's a good thing I have slow machines :)
I always knew cows had a lot of potential. Potential to be a great meal at a bbq !
IF the horde wins, we will always accept a rematch.

Yeah - thatx for all who joined in -- I think we all agree the greater challenge was getting WU's --- I woke up this morning to find the 990 running at 11% CPU --
but we were all playing on the same field -- Thanx team AtP

Oh man I couldn't eat another cow ear.
Thank you to everyone who took part or helped organise this. Fortunately there is no-extended clean up. BOINC credit will appear at some point for work done. I think the conversion rate is 20:1. It goes towards the PSA badge at sieving rather than prime finding intervals. Feel free to keep taking work from PRPNet if you want or move on.
See you all at the next challenge.

Well I was the leading points scorer and I can assure you I am not a cloud -- nor did I use one for the barbecue --- nor will I be using one in the coming PG challenge --- I have 43 cores all sitting in front of me -- see my account --
From memory I racked about 1.6M -- tests I did the day before suggested I should get around 2M points in 24Hrs but I suffered from lack of WU's same as everyone else
Yes-- the i7's are overclocked

I had a bit of a laugh at this ----
Since you have access to our forum -- did you not consider that AtP might counter with some disinformation -- sort of "we know that you know that we know"---got you confused now -- is our forum real or fiction
@ AtP members --- I would say we have some very confused cows out there.
