Could we actually get this sent to someone that completes work?
http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=133113721

Why are there so many lame crunchers downloading tasks they won't or can't finish? It seems like the big ones always get sent to the lame ones.

Judging by history, I'm not real confidant with the current wing man.

Too bad the server can not detect "bad" wingman computers and then send out only to "known" good computers. (I think too many are OCing beyond what is prudent.)

I have started crunching on this project and have discovered this same problem.

Yet! I also must complain profusely to PROJECT ADMIN!

The credit for these workunits is really low.

So, not only are people canceling these workunits but the pay out is worse than the other CPU projects.

I see little chance of attracting new crunchers with such poor payouts.

Don't despair too much about attracting wingmen -- lots of people care more about the work they're doing than the credit they receive. IMHO, the PSP is one of the most interesting projects here, along with the related SOB (aka the "I don't care if it's Prime Sierpinski Problem) and TRP (the, um, anti-matter equivalent of PSP).

The problem is that PG needs cpu power to complete their project.

To get that power, we (the community) have to dedicate our expensive hardware and electricity, for what? A few measly credits.

PrimeGrid, you can keep your cake.

Not just for the credits, no.

My point is that credit isn't what motivates a lot of people who participate here, especially those that are doing CPU crunching. Stacked against the GPU sieves, as you say, the credits are measly by comparison. If all you're interested in are credits, then the CPU projects here might not be the best place for you.

Credit's nice, but the chance to be the discoverer of something significant is priceless. Unlike most other BOINC projects, in PG you have the opportunity for YOU -- not you as part of a collective, but you individually -- to make a unique discovery and be recognized for it.

If you're running SETI or GPUGRID, for example, the only thing at all you get from it besides credits is a sense of satisfaction from having contributed a very minor amount to the overall project. At PG, you get to be THE discoverer of a prime number -- and have your name go into the record books as the discover.

People have been (and still are) participating in distributed computing based projects to search for large prime numbers that are not part of the BOINC system at all. That means zero credits. The search for prime numbers is, to all of those people, a worthwhile goal in and of itself. To some degree, that applies to the BOINC side of PG as well, although not for all people. (For those that aren't aware of it, there are projects at PrimeGrid that are not run through their BOINC server.)

Don't get me wrong, the credits do matter to me. Just not nearly as much as finding a prime number does!

I follow you completely. I check my credits regularly and I try to get my badges, but what really makes my day, is finding a prime, or, as recently, a fermat divider, which I didn't know existed before. (Is this a correct sentence?)

This brings me to a fundamental question: is anything ever done with all those primes? Can anyone expand on this?
